Black Myth: Wukong is an action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology and based on Journey to the West, one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature.

You shall set out as the Destined One to venture into the challenges and marvels ahead, to uncover the obscured truth beneath the veil of a glorious legend from the past.

As the Destined One, you shall encounter powerful foes and worthy rivals throughout your journey. Fearlessly engage them in epic battles where surrender is not an option.

Aside from mastering various staff techniques, you can also freely combine different spells, abilities, weapons, and equipment to find the winning strategy that best suits your combat style.

Story

The story begins with a magical rock imbued with the essence of earth and heaven, a balance of yin and yang. After a thousand years, the stone cracked and gave birth to a fully grown Monkey. This monkey went on to join a group of monkeys, and rises among their ranks to become their king by proving his bravery in finding their home. As it happens to all who have accomplished much and feel they have a lot to lose, the Monkey became fearful of death, and thus departed on a journey to seek the secrets of immortality.
His travels lead him to become the disciple of an immortal sage Puti Zushi, and it’s here that he is finally given the name Sun Wukong, literally meaning “Monkey awakened from emptiness”. With training, he develops magical abilities such as transforming into a possibly infinite amount of creatures, creating clones of himself by pulling his hair, or his Cloud Somersault, all of which we can actually see being used in the trailers.

Gameplay

Black Myth: Wukong is an action role-playing game. It has sometimes been described as similar to soulslike games in the media during its pre-release, even though Game Science does not consider it as a soulslike. The game is played in single-player mode with a third-person view. It is inspired by the classical Chinese novel Journey to the West.
The player controls a monkey referred to as the Destined One, who is based on Sun Wukong from the novel. The character's primary weapon is a staff known as the Ruyi Jingu Bang. The staff is able to extend and shrink its size. The combat involves attack stances, which allow for many strike patterns of distinct types of light and heavy attacks. Focus accumulates by landing light attacks and executing well-timed dodges. Heavy attacks consume focus, unless they are triggered by charging up instead. Stamina depletes by sprinting, dodging, and attacking
