Manor Lords is a strategy game that allows you to experience the life of a medieval lord. Grow your starting village into a bustling city, manage resources and production chains, and expand your lands through conquest. Inspired by the art and architecture of late 14th century Franconia, Manor Lords prioritizes historical accuracy wherever possible, using it to inform gameplay mechanics and visuals alike. Common medieval tropes are avoided in favor of historical accuracy in order to make the world feel more authentic, colorful, and believable.

Lead your people into battle, not as expendable units to be easily replenished, but as your beloved loyal subjects where every death is a cost worth considering.

Story

In Manor Lords, you take on the role of a medieval lord, building and managing a growing settlement while navigating the challenges of feudal life. Starting with a modest plot of land, you must balance resources, oversee your peasants, and expand your influence through trade, alliances, and conquest.

The world is filled with obstacles, from harsh winters and economic struggles to rival lords and the chaos of war. With every decision shaping your legacy, the game challenges you to lead with wisdom—whether as a compassionate ruler or a fearsome tyrant. Will your name echo in history as a great leader or a forgotten despot?

Gameplay

Set in late 14th-century Franconia, Manor Lords is a city-building game which includes real-time tactical warfare. The game can also be considered a colony simulation. There are three different modes in Manor Lords, titled Rise to Prosperity, Restoring the Peace, and On the Edge. They are differentiated by the aspects they focus on: Rise to Prosperity and On the Edge respectively emphasise growth through city-building and conquest through warfare, while Restoring the Peace gives a more balanced experience. The game offers a degree of customizability; players are able to adjust in-game values such as starting position and off-map threats.

Greg Styczeń is the creator and solo developer of Manor Lords through his studio Slavic Magic. In the early years, development was funded in part through donations on Patreon. In 2021, Styczeń also received a grant from Epic Games through their Epic MegaGrants program.

The game was originally planned to be released in late 2023, but was delayed to the following year because Styczeń felt it needed "more bugfix and polish". Manor Lords was released for early access on 26 April 2024.
