Little Nightmares III Has Arrived — Here’s Why You Should Play
Retrograde .A spine-tingling new chapter in the eerie Little Nightmares saga is finally here. Little Nightmares III launches today on October 10, 2025, delivering a fresh horror-platformer experience across all major platforms: PC (Windows), PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One & Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Enter the Nowhere with Low and Alone
This time, the game introduces two new protagonists — Low and Alone — who must navigate a twisted realm known as The Spiral in their desperate bid to escape. While maintaining the franchise’s signature atmosphere, Little Nightmares III also introduces online co-op gameplay (no local couch co-op), allowing a friend to join your descent into terror.
Each character wields a unique tool: Low uses a bow, while Alone carries a wrench, enabling distinct approaches to puzzles and traversal. The game additionally adds a gliding umbrella mechanic, new environments like the creepy Carnevale, and unsettling residents lurking at every turn.
What’s New — and What’s Familiar
Feature | Notes |
---|---|
Atmospheric Design | Stunning environments, macabre creature design, eerie lighting & shadows. |
Puzzle-Platform Roots | The game stays true to the puzzle + evasion roots of the series. |
Co-op & Solo Modes | Play solo with AI or team up via online co-op. |
Mixed Critical Reception | Some praise the visuals and lore, but critics note uneven pacing, repetitive mechanics, and underutilization of new features like co-op. |
In GamesRadar’s review, Little Nightmares III is described as “an overly safe, uneven, and half-baked follow-up.” While the game retains much of what made its predecessors compelling — the unsettling environments, suspenseful chases, and evocative storytelling — it reportedly stumbles in delivery and innovation. PC Gamer similarly observes that the game “sticks closely to the series’ established formula” but lacks depth in its new mechanics.
Early Access & Enhanced Edition
If you’re a fan of the original Little Nightmares (2017), there’s a bonus in play. Pre-ordering a digital copy of Little Nightmares III on eligible platforms (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S) grants early access to the Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition—a remastered version of the first game with visuals upgraded to 4K & 60 FPS, improved effects, and streamlined gameplay aids. Owners of the original game (on PC, PlayStation, Xbox) will receive the enhanced version free at launch.
Note: this pre-order bonus is not available for Nintendo Switch / Switch 2 versions.
Should You Dive In?
If atmospheric horror, clever design, and immersive visuals excite you, Little Nightmares III is a compelling play — especially for fans of the series. But if you demand bold innovation in mechanics or seamless new gameplay modes, the execution may occasionally feel underwhelming. Critics suggest the co-op and platforming elements don’t always live up to their potential.
Still, it’s a welcome return to this haunting universe — new faces, new nightmares, and new mysteries to uncover.
